Showcases for the pedestrian zone in Westerland on the Island of Sylt

ST-VITRINEN, the showcase and display case manufacturer from Bielefeld, Germany, has developed an entirely new line of showcases and successfully installed them in the pedrestrian zones in the city of Westerland on the Island of Sylt in the North Sea. The new system, with the model name "Vitrum Boulevard" allows the users to present their wares with different characteristics in outdoor areas. An all-glass system that was previously known for the Vitrum Poster Displays, in which a frameless structure was used, was adapted and improved for this new application. The various teams at ST are particularly proud of the fact that the first 50 showcases have already been installed and are standing up just as expected to the rough climatic conditions along the North Sea coast.

The new Vitrum-System gives the showcase a special elegant and nebel appearance. This design is characterized by the almost seamless blending of the glass panes into the actual body of the showcase. The winged flanks that hold the glass panes and allow these to be opened, is complete hidden and is totally concealed by a passepartout. That makes the entire showcase take on the appearance of a single, homogeneous unit and theglance of the observer is focused on what is really important, the contents of the showcase and not the showcase itself. "It is important," says General Manager Siegfried Trautmann, "that high-quality goods and objects that are being presented for sales be displayed in an appropriate, elegant setting. If the design of a showcase and the materials used in its production are of top quality, then these characteristics are projected onto the objects being presented.“ Aside from the flush galss front panels, the Sylt models also received a base of polished, gray granite.

The buyer for the showcases in Westerland, Sylt, was a group of local merchants that was searching for the possibility to not only protect the character of their shopping district, but also to present their wares - along with visitor information - in an attractive and appealing manner. Our company was actively involved in this project. We even contributed during the planning process, helping to make sure that the special needs of the Sylt region were met. Not only an atrractive outward appearance was being sought, but the climate along the North Sea coast in very harsh and this necessitated an especially high degree of weather-resistance.

To make these showcases real eye-catchers, an innovative system was additionally used . An alternating RGB-lighting system was installed. We made sure that the lighting used gently and softly illuminated the objects, without a harsh, sudden change from one color to another. This pioneering lighting system has, in the meantime, been adapted for other customers, Sunseeker, for example, who were looking for a way to present posters of their exclusive yachts at their own on-site location. Additionally, the Moscow City Railway has already received their first batch of new showcases, which will eventually be used throughout the entire network of stations in and around Moscow. "That proves", added Mr. Trautmann, "how diversified the uses of our display systems can be and that we are continuing to be the trend-setter, not only in regard to the technology we offer, but also with the design of our products."
